By many accounts, the jerseys worn by the Phoenix Suns during the mid-90s are among the best ever made. Between Charles Barkley, Kevin Johnson, Penny Hardaway, and Jason Kidd, the Suns stars donned a variety of heat at a high level. While some shoes were memorable but didn’t match, such as the Run ‘Slam, we take a look back at the best basketball shoes to rock the purple and orange in no particular order.

Penny Hardaway’s signature line hit a standstill in the desert. Still, this “Suns” Air Penny IV ranks among the best Penny IVs and best Phoenix colorways. Black, white and purple prove a winning combo on the smooth silo, and the orange accents are just right.

These Matrix-inspired Air Jordan 5 PEs never made their way to the court, but they do make it into this list. The combination of purple and orange take well to the AJ line, and would sell well even without the #31 tagging.

The combination of black, white and purple had been bubbling on Barkley favorites years before, but the Nike Air Max CB ’94 saw the Phoenix colorway rise to prominence. Though donning no orange, the shoes are a staple for Suns fans and basketball junkies. If you’ve been keeping track at home, Penny sneakers x Phoenix colorways = win. This Foamposite is no different, sparking revived interest in the Suns theme and this very feature.

Signature shoes and MVP honors? Chuck got both in Phoenix, but Steve Nash doubled up on the accolades. While Steve’s shoe line was progressive in his own right, it doesn’t hold a candle to the casual crossover seen with the Barkleys. Regardless, this HoH Zoom MVP makeup was one of the best for the PG in the PHX colorway.

Outside of the Air Jordan line, retro player exclusives are quite rare. Nike broke the mold when they revamped the classic Air Max CB 94 with Amar’e Stoudemire in mind. The colorways were even more Phoenix than the original, never releasing, but worth highlighting.

Chuck was still in Philly when the Air Force 180 released, but the “Hoop Pack” channeled Suns shades for more than a few Nike b-ball classics. The also awesome Flight 89s are?interchangeable?with this Phoenix pair.

Who knew cool grey would take so well to purple and orange? It seems obvious now, but the Air Penny V proved the Phoenix colorway was more dynamic than just black and white bases.

The perks of being a journeyman and a JB athlete are player?exclusives?in every colorway under the sun. Quentin Richardson enjoyed such spoiling, getting laced with an array of unreleased Air Jordans, including this 13 makeup.

Orange Air bubbles give the CB34 II a boost above the original. This “Home” makeup kept the accents to a minimum, but still made the most of the Phoenix hues.

By many accounts, the jerseys worn by the Phoenix Suns during the mid-90s are among the best ever made.
