One year ago today, the Reebok Kamikaze II saw its official retro return. A year later, the Reebok Kamikaze I gets the same treatment by releasing at retail in OG fashion. To celebrate, we take a look back at one our favorite features detailing Shawn Kemp’s complete signature sneaker range with Reebok.

80s babies, 90s runts and older heads remember the high flying game of Shawn Kemp well. For the rest, the Reignman’s legacy lives on in the glory of Youtube mixes and his recently retroed signature line. In celebration of the Reebok Kamikaze II re-release, we take a look back at all of Shawn’s sigs with the Vector.

Following back to back All-Star bids, Reebok rewarded Shawn Kemp with his first signature in the form of the Kamikaze. The midtop makeup was electric, baring a more brash and aggressive design than anything he’d ever worn. Colors coincided with the Sonics unis and were worn throughout the course of the 94-95 season and postseason.

When people are talking about the “Shawn Kemp sneakers,” they’re referring to these. Loud in 1995 and still ringing, the Reebok Kamikaze II stands as the most popular signature in the Reignman’s line. Kemp sported this shoe during the Sonics 64-win season, which ultimately culminated in an NBA Finals matchup against the Bulls. For whatever reason, he did not sport his signatures in the championship series though he played incredible.

Ditching one weather reference for another, the Reebok Reignman relied on Kemp’s nickname and coordinated with the club’s new jerseys. The calm after the storm featured a smoother design, low profile build, and Hexalite cushioning.

A change in cities led to a change in colorways on the Reebok Reignman II. The build was in line with its predecessor, clinging to clean lines and Cavalier hues. Patent leather and mesh made cameos on the upper, residing above an exaggerated foam midsole.

Much like the Foamposite and Flightposite interrupted Penny and KG’s lines for technica advancements, The Shroud did the same for Kemp. A zipper upper proved more progressive than aggressive in contrast to his older sneakers, but still fit the Reignman well. For whatever reason, the styling saw more of a trend lifespan as it was scrapped by Reebok basketball models shortly after its launch. Shawn sported The Shrouds in his sixth and final All-Star Game in 1998.

Shawn Kemp’s first season in Cleveland featured three marquee models, including his last signature. The Reebok Reignman III rocked a sporty and sleek build, far faster and more playful than previous makeups. Home and away versions wore Cavs colors, also carrying big branding and visible Hexalite.

Shawn Kemp’s Signature Reebok Shoes (images via Mis Zapas)
[polldaddy poll=6824293]

Reebok Kamikaze I

image via nbacardDOTnet
