The relationship between German footwear brand adidas and rap super group Run DMC began when ?My adidas? became an instant classic. After that, Run DMC would continually inspire their fans to hold up their adidas sneakers at sold out venues. Adidas flew one of their representatives to DMC?s show in Madison Square Garden to see this phenomenon. In front of a sold out MSG, 20,000 fans held up their adidas in support of Run DMC. Adidas signed the group soon thereafter, leading to the continued popularity of the Run DMC brand under the adidas umbrella.

In 2011, adidas celebrated the 25th anniversary of their most decorated signee, Run DMC. The group is one of the most iconic in hip hop, selling millions upon millions of records worldwide, while also being only the second rap group inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. 2011’s “My adidas” sneaker featured memorable Jam Master Jay branding on the heel tab along with a nod to 1986.
