“I’m from Massachusetts, and they’re (New Balance) from Massachusetts. It’s a representation of home pride.” – DJ Mars

You don’t know New Balance like DJ Mars knows New Balance.

The Boston-bred DJ, owner of one of the biggest New Balance collections, has been an avid fan of the Massachusetts-based sneaker company since a kid, and New Balance has noticed. Over the past couple of years, DJ Mars has appeared in several New Balance campaigns, with the most recent featuring him discussing how his love for NBs came about. On the eve of the UNDFTD X colette X LA MJC X New Balance release, two of his favorite New Balance collabs, we hooked up with the superstar DJ to find out his favorite New Balance collaborations of all-time. As he stated, “I have?some unexpected heat?in here.”

Check out DJ Mars’?20 Favorite New Balance Collaborations of All-Time.

DJ Mars: When these dropped in 2009, they owned the market. From the buttery suede look to the gum soles, these look right on your feet. The simple design inspirations, such as the star on the top lace hole, shows you that someone put in some effort. Small details like that make the collaborations special. ALMOND and New Balance won with this combo!

DJ Mars:?Based on the Vietnam war movie of the same name, this pack is dope. I have the gold pair out of this pack, and when I wear them, I kill ’em. You are winning anyway you look at it with any of the three pairs. All of them could stand alone and make major noise. Not mad at all in regards to the design efforts involved.

DJ Mars:?One of my favorite pair of kicks to wear on my feet. It always seems like Japan is three steps ahead of us on the design tip, and these shoes are an example why. The gold toe and nubuck mid make for a nice material combination. Trust me sneakerheads, these shoes fit right with some clean cargo pants. Every time I wear them, people stop and stare.

DJ Mars:?I’m sure there are some who don’t like this pack; they may like one but not the other. I think the contrasting shoes make the pack a great idea. Grey isn’t for everyone, just like color, but usage of both palettes make this combo very hot.

DJ Mars:?574s don’t really make it in the collabo world for whatever reason, but these are killer. That red, white, and blue makes the heel so official. The heel is a total contrast to the brushed suede on the toe box; a clean, yet colorful combination.

DJ Mars:?I think the first time I saw these were on Hypebeast; these are pure heat. Super limited, even though I don’t have a pair, these are a collector’s dream. The orange pops off so crazy, and that blue hits at the right time.

DJ Mars:?First of all, I salute Woody for his effort in keeping the culture alive for the past 10 years. Then, I salute him for putting together a dope shoe for the 998 series. The two separate tones of purple set things off, and the added fangs on the front sole are dope. It’s a very nice way to include the Tasmanian Devil theme.

DJ Mars: This is one of my favorite collabs of last year. For some reason, I was wearing a lot of red and these kicks came right on time. From the reflective to the suede materials, these were all in for me. The detail in the way the materials were mixed up proved that Matt and his crew knew what they were doing.

DJ Mars:?I give it to these guys up in Beantown; they can come up with some ill ass colorways. CNCPTS killed it with this 999 mockup. Despite the hype, I still love the color and material usage on this shoe. It’s a great design; one of my favorites.

DJ Mars:?The title is kind of corny, but the colors on both of these shoes are dope; premium suede on both shoes along with the preforated tops. With a pair of shorts and a fresh Polo, you are good to go with either one.

DJ Mars:?For some, the patent leather, along with the stars, may be a bit much, but for me that’s part of the allure. Made for the stage or stunting, these collabs are worth hunting for. It’s easily one of my favorites.

DJ Mars:?One of my favorite shoes in the New Balance arsenal got touched up by the FAME City crew. The graffiti collective paired with Mita and came up with this ill mix of primary colors. I’m an old graf head, so this sneaker rocks in my opinion.

DJ Mars:?I loved these from the first time I saw them. Sheesh! The way they used the color grey against the purple and green came off perfectly. The only thing missing from this shoe was a better story. Hype aside, I really love how this shoe came out. It’s one of my favorite 580s ever!

DJ Mars:?The kids in Japan aren’t the only ones who make dope 580s. It’s probably one of the best uses of the color grey on a 580 I’ve ever seen. The Black Friday release date helped the marketing push, but these shoes were dope enough to stand on their own. Rick and Ro put out some heat with this one.

DJ Mars:?With as many collaborators as colors, this is a stand out pack to me. I love the usage of colors here. Not every sneakerhead will be able to pull this one off, so don’t try. I like the bold step that the collective took to put this pack together.

DJ Mars:?The fact that they are a very rare 997.5 says enough. The fact that the pink, purple, and light grey colorway sit so well together says another thing. Not to many brands do “clean” like New Balance.

DJ Mars:?Everything about this collab is dope. From the perforated stars, to the rugged suede uppers, to the snakeskin accents, this shoe is so detailed. Even the insole has it’s own personality. Mita won with this one.

With color cues from Nike’s Baltoro line, this shoe comes off dope. These cats from Japan take great lepas of faith with their design’s and it works. Since its drop in 08′ I’ve always loved this pack.

For me its the marketing of the package that kills it. New Balance’s running audience probably shop’s at J. Crew, why not tie a shoe in with their wardrobe. Its a win//win for all involved. Fan,brand, consumer.

Probably the biggest collab the brand has had to date. The way the shoe was designed, marketed and delivered was perfection at its highest level. The shoe its self represented Massachusetts in always and the brand delivery mirrored the new form of sneaker marketing.

DJ Mars goes into detail on his 20 favorite New Balance collaborations; interesting picks here.

[618,1225475
1225476,1225668,322,1225536,90,325,472,373598,1211427,1225534,519477,591

2":"type-post

20.
