A lifetime immersed in the sneaker culture is long enough to know what it’s all about. For Sean Williams and Dee Wells it’s simple: appreciate, educate and elevate. Between talking with Tinker and teaching a class, the Obsessive Sneaker Disorder front men took the time to talk with us. In celebration of the show’s five-year anniversary, take a look at what they’re rocking in this double feature? My 5.

Sean Williams: “For me, PUMA was one of the first shoes I wore when I got into sneakers when I was 13. Back in the 80s when people were b-boying they were wearing PUMA Clydes. Those shoes go right back to the early days of hip-hop. As hip-hop culture grew and emerged, those sneakers were right there. For someone like me that is almost 41 years old, that shoe never wavered in importance to me. I always walked with those stories and that connection to them. The Clyde always stayed relevant. They?re one of the shoes that technically has never been retroed because PUMA never stopped making them.”

Dee Wells: “The Flow is such a classic shoe that a lot of purists didn?t want to mess up. Here you have this Lunar foam– but it works. Our friend Brian is an OG sneakerhead and he has multiple pairs of Flows from the 80s and I was surprised that he actually likes the remix version. I like these because you?ve got the woven and you?ve got the Lunar. Olive green kind of camouflages the front but the orange liner really sets them off.”

Sean Williams: Sleeper shoe. I started wearing them right around the time we had Josh Brubaker on the show. That?s the shoe I?ve logged the most hours in since getting them a few months ago. I?ve easily worn that shoe 13 hours in a day?running, walking, and all the different types of activities that a city person would go through in the course of a day. I don?t think in these recent years that I?ve ever worn a shoe for that long in one day. My favorite color scheme right now would be the black with the grey 3M hits on it.

Dee Wells: “I remember my father wore those playing tennis when I was a kid. The green sets it off and the suede hits on the toe box never gets old. A younger person can wear it and so can an older person. My uncle just celebrated his 70th birthday and he loves that sneaker. Tried and true, I get a pair every year.”

Sean Williams: “Yup, I said it, the 498. On our site we have a section called The Come Up where people share sneakers they found for a dirt-cheap deal. We had a little bit of a lull and I submitted this New Balance 498 that I found. They had them on sale for $39.99. When I picked up the shoes there was only one shoe in the box. I had to wait so long to get the other shoe that the guy said I could have them for $29.99. They?re this very hard to find tiffany blue, black, and silver colorway, they?re insanely comfortable, and they?re Made in the USA. $29.99? I think it turned out pretty good.”

Dee Wells: “They?re bright, they?re obnoxious, they glow in the dark. They look like a bag of Skittles that got hit over the head and threw up. I wore that sneaker to the Brooklyn Hip-Hop Festival and I can?t tell you how many people stopped me. It doesn?t matter where I wear it, people stop, take a look at it, give me the head nod, the thumbs up, the whole nine. I?ve worn the Gel-Lyte IIIs and they?re not as comfortable as these. People go out and run Ironman races and marathons in these.”

Sean Williams: “When they re-did these there was some skepticism in terms of straying from the original, but they did an absolutely insane job with it. The memory foam cage around the back of the post of that hard TPU plastic cage was a great upgrade. For a model of that magnitude to be re-done this day with I think cheaper materials –that?s just the way everyone?s doing it, obviously– they put out a really high quality shoe and it?s insanely comfortable. I could wear these all day.”

Dee Wells: “I was introduced to the Janoskis by Kadoma from the H-Town Sneaker Summit. I wear the black pair a lot because they go with everything, kind of like a black pair of Chuck Taylors or white-on-white Air Force 1. Because of the Zoom Air they?re so comfortable and the toe box has an oxford look. If they did black-on-black you could probably pull them off as a dress shoe.”

Sean Williams: “That shoe is extremely overlooked right now. In a lifestyle market where people want a classic runner to chill out in, it?s very understated in that regard. Being a runner, it has too much to compete with, but it?s priced right. If you?re the type of person that does your homework these are probably one of the pairs you?ll pick up first. From the time I got it I knew it was gonna be a hit. I tested them in the winter of 2011 in New York City. We got barely any snow so I was able to get away with wearing them. Even then, your feet get a little cold but it was the best way to test the ventilation process of the shoe. That shoe does what it?s intended to do.”

Dee Wells: “I got introduced to Burn Rubber when I went to Detroit for Super Bowl XL. I went by the shop and got to meet Rick and Ro. They were so humble, but you could also see they were driven to put Michigan and Detroit on the map. They?re true to putting people on from Detroit. People know when they buy Burn Rubber they?re buying into them and the people that support them and the store. That?s important and we need more of that support.”

Keep up with Sean & Dee on Twitter and Facebook.

[1207912
1225742,668598

2":"type-post

YO!
