The “vintage” treatment to sneakers has landed in America this past year on several mainstream brands such as Converse and Nike, but count on a European brand to get it right. The style of roughed up kicks has been inline in Europe for years but hopefully Puma can change things with their vintage make ups of the classic Puma Clyde.<\/p>\n
First things first, vintage enthusiasts and connoisseurs are into old kicks – not “pre-worn by a hobo” kicks. Worn down soles, ripped uppers, and yellowed midsoles earn “beat” status, not vintage. Puma’s vintage take on the Clyde is just like how vintage sneaker hunters would come across a pair stashed in the basement of a mom and pop shop cleaning out 30 years of odds and ends. The shoes are a little dusty with a little age on the outsole, but don’t look like they were stomped to death at Woodstock ’69.<\/p>\n
