Over the years, Nike has matched flair with philanthropy by creating product that?s coincided with cause. In the spirit of the recent #NIKELETTER initiative, we take a look back at seven efforts from the Swoosh family that have been embraced by the sneaker culture and impacted the community.

Last summer, Nike shocked the world by bringing out arguably the most sought after sneaker in its never-ending vault. The Nike MAG 2011 compounded hype from the sneaker community, movie buffs, and Back to the Future fanatics thanks to its unmatched nostalgia and unexpected release. Rather than capitalize on the demand or hold off until 2015, the Swoosh dropped a limited eBay run with all proceeds benefitting the Michael J. Fox Foundation for a future without Parkinson?s Disease. Over $5.6 million was raised for the cause.

From wristbands to basically becoming its own brand, the LIVESTRONG line has transcended statement product. Since its inception in 1997, the Lance Armstrong Foundation has invested more than $245 million directly towards the fight against cancer.

(PRODUCT) Red has helped to raise awareness and funds worldwide for AIDS in Africa. Both Converse and Nike have joined the Bono-backed initiative by licensing apparel and releasing collaborative product of high regard.

The Doernbecher Freestyle Collection has become wildly popular thanks to the creative colorways featured on classic Nike and Jordan models. All proceeds from the sneaker sales benefit the same children?s hospital where the designs derived.

Nike MAG: It’s About Time
