Music-wise, hip-hop artists are regulars in our My 5 column, so what’s an R&B/soul singer doing here? Mateo, the latest signee to Interscope records and Krucial Noise (owned by Kerry “Krucial” Brothers — Grammy-award winning producer for famed artist Alicia Keys), is an avid fan of sneakers and indie streetwear fashion. We recently caught up with the Cincinnati native to find out which five shoes make up his current rotation. Mateo mixes classic, iconic Converse and Reebok silhouettes with some of the newest, up-to-date creations from Jordan Brand. Check out Mateo’s My 5 blend below.

Mateo: “I love vintage Chucks. I have several pair that I literally rock all of the time. I love those. I have a grey pair and a yellow pair that I wear a lot.”

Mateo: “I’m wearing some Android Homme shoes, too. I have the new ones that have the navajo print on the side of them. They’re pretty fresh, man.”

Mateo: “I have to re-up on my Son of Mars. I like the shape of the Son of Mars. It reminds me of the ’80s with the high-top form. They’re really fly. You can wear these with a lot of stuff. I like the black and red ones that came out not too long ago.”

Mateo: “The Spizike is one of my favorite Jordan models. I have the grey, red and blue ones. I like them because they’re colorful. Its actually my favorite Spizike ever.”

Mateo: “I like old school Reebok running shoes. I have the Reebok ERS 2000s. I’m not into the new Reebok running stuff. The new Reebok Zig stuff looks weird. The sole of those shoes is really weird.”

Download Mateo’s latest single, “Say It’s So,” on iTunes.
