Today, we kick off our newly developed column titled Into the Archives. In this throwback feature, we will highlight one of our classic features that coincide with something/someone relevant in the sneaker community today. The sneaker community’s undivided attention was focused on the re-emergence of the Nike MAG this month, therefore, we decided to revisit one of our Sneaker Geeks installments. In December 2008, we constructed a feature themed around the best movie inspired sneakers ever created. In case you missed it three years ago, check out our “Best Movie Inspired Sneakers” feature, which includes sneakers inspired by Dawn of the Dead, Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, Transformers and many more.

Title: Sneaker Geeks – 11 of the Best Movie Inspired Sneakers #11 – Nike Trainer 1 SB “Dawn of the Dead”
The Nike SB Trainer 1 kicks off our top 10 movie-inspired sneakers. We applaud Nike SB for using a great sneaker for the theme and we really like the colorway. Props to SB for making a Halloween/Horror sneaker you can pull off 364 other days of the year.

#10 – Simpsons x Vans Collection
The Simpsons x Vans collection was monumental with work from some heavy hitters that include Futura, KAWS, Mr. Cartoon, Neckface, and Stash – people you might have heard of.

#9 – Jordan Spiz’ike “Do the Right Thing”

This Jordan Spizike “Do the Right Thing” is very unique compared to the other sneakers on our list. We are so used to seeing most of our Jordan sneakers in the same old Black/Red colorway, however, this was a breath of fresh air. The tribute to the movie is very obvious seeing that the colorway is an exact clone of the movie cover.

#8 – Nike SB Dunk High “Ferris Bueller”
Bueller? Bueller?

This was a timeless film and flawless matching – almost too perfect. These kicks were good enough that Stan Ipcus couldn’t hold in his enthusiasm and wrote a song about them.

#7 – Nike Dunk SB Low “Oompa Loompa”
Oompa Loompa do-ba-de-doo, is this not an exact inspiration to you?

There is not a mistake you can see on this sneaker as far as mimicking the makeup of the little characters. Orange Face equals orange toe box. Green hair equals green inner lining and green outsole. Brown and white costumes equals brown and white upper. Get my drift?

#6 – Nike “Fantastic Four” Collection

The Fantastic Four release were very exact as far as colorway, yet very simple as far as sneaker choice. The Foamposite really had no Dr. Doom inspiration whereas the Nike Air Max 95 mimicked the Torch to the T. Nevertheless, these sneakers were average releases.

#5 – Nike Air Trainer III “Transformers”
These vivid Transformers-inspired sneakers “more than meet the eye” to say the least. Nike selected probably the perfect shoe for the job with different pieces, panels, and materials to pull off a memorable pair of kicks. What was the only shortcoming? Not landing that licensing deal to put the Transformers logo on the tongue!

#4 – Star Wars x Adidas Super Stars Consortium

The shoelace tips explain it all. Adidas covered the lace tips in the neon green color of Yoda?s light saber, while covering the lace tips in red to match Darth Vader’s light saber. Besides the lace tips, the Darth Vader Super Stars draw inspiration from the characters mask, and the Yoda Super Stars contain a hemp upper similar to a typical Yoda uniform. Obviously, this shoe was created precision.

#3 – Nike Dunk SB Low Sample “Freddy Krueger”
How good was this sneaker? It was so good that New Line Cinemas sent Beaverton a ‘cease and desist’ before the kicks were ever released. Pairs have been floating around, but for well more than the cost of about 200 movie tickets.

#2 – Air Jordan 11 “Space Jam”
When you combine one of the best movies ever with one of the best Jordan sneakers of all time, how could this not be one of the better movie-inspired sneakers? What could possibly prevent this sneaker from earning the top spot on our list?

#1 – Nike Hyperdunk “Marty McFly”

Is there a more closer inspiration than the Marty McFlys? While we continue to pray and hope for an OG Nike “Marty McFly” release, this Nike Hyperdunk and Nike Zoom SB Tre AD and were more than enough to settle our appetite. The colorway was exact and the Hyperdunk arguably cloned the Marty McFly sneaker to the tee. The Zoom SB even had glow-in-the-dark swooshes! Does it get more exact than that? This release even had Kobe Bryant attempting to go back into the future.

What were some of the worst? Check the next page for our bonus feature.

UnFab Five:

1. Goonies x Puma – Puma hasn’t had a good year with themed kicks. These are on that list.

2. Reebok Reverse Jam “Beetlejuice” – Bugs crawling on your sneakers? Do we need to go any further?
