Ever meet one of those people that’s just outright cool? You can’t explain it, but the effortless aura they emit just makes you respect them. John Gotty is one of those people. But the man behind The Smoking Section<\/a> isn’t just a respected lifestyle and music writer, he’s quite the purveyor of fine footwear. We recently had a chance to catch up with Gotty and ask him about the sneaks he finds himself wearing more than any others. Though his collection hovers in the hundreds, he keeps these pairs closer than the rest. Check out his current rotation.<\/p>\n

NIKE LEBRON 8 V1 & V2<\/h4>\n

John Gotty:<\/strong> “Between V1 and V2, I’ve prolly spent more money on the latest LeBrons than any other sneaker in a while. And without a doubt, I’d say they’re worth every penny. The materials are durable and easy to clean, many of the colorways are expressive and the comfort is top notch. But I only favor wearing the higher-cut. The Sprites and other low models look nice, but they don’t have the same aggressiveness.”<\/p>\n

Nike Air Max 2010 “Air Attack” Volt<\/h4>\n

John Gotty:<\/strong> “Make no mistake, the AM2009 performs much better than the AM2010. But finding legit pairs of the AM09’s is getting harder and harder as days go by since fakes popped up. There’s not much drop-off with the AM10’s and Nike did great with the colorways offered with the Volts topping the list. Definite conversation-starters.”<\/p>\n

Nike LunarGlide+ 3 “USA Track & Field”<\/h4>\n

John Gotty:<\/strong> “I’m not very snobbish when it comes to what I buy or wear. I can honestly say I’ve had nearly every single sneaker I’ve ever chased after and my closet has probably boasted close to 300 shoeboxes at its peak. Too many pairs of kicks for one pair of feet.<\/p>\n

Now, I only buy the shoes I like to really wear, putting function over fashion quite a bit. I never thought the LunarGlide+ 2 or 3 were very aesthetically attractive models, but jeez Louise do they offer stability and cushioning out of this world. Truly one of those models that can be worn on a long day, sun up to sun down and your feet still feel great.<\/p>\n

The ones pictured are the USA Track & Field version that recently released. I have a personality quirk about collecting marathon commemorative tees, ones with running slogans, etc…even though I have zero intentions of doing anything more fast-paced than skipping.”<\/p>\n

Nike Zoom Kobe V “Miles Davis”<\/h4>\n

John Gotty:<\/strong> “When the ZKV’s dropped, I think I was in the middle of a running shoe craze and didn’t pay much attention to them. After trying a few pairs of ZKVI’s and seeing the ZKV’s going for cheap at outlets, I picked up a pair…and haven’t looked back since. Snug and comfortable. Distinctive colorways, of which I think the Miles Davis may be my favorite. A beautiful Kind Of Blue indeed.”<\/p>\n

Nike Air Maxim 1+ Trainer 1 ND<\/h4>\n

John Gotty:<\/strong> “Every head has a staple shoe. In my opinion, no closet shall be considered complete without a pair of gray New Balance 991\/992\/993’s. But since my most recent 993’s are a little beat, the Maxim Trainer will have to do for posting purposes as one of my other staples.<\/p>\n

I’m old school. I love AM1’s. I love Trainers, from new to old. While I think many of Nike’s hybrid sneakers miss the mark, the Maxim Trainer in the “Chlorophyll” colorway nailed it. Very distinct sneaker with the color scheme, the materials and forefoot strap.<\/p>\n

Another one I snoozed on initially and ever since then I’ve been trying to buy every pair I run across. My goal is to make sure my closet is never without a fresh pair of these. If you see a 13, do drop me a line. “<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
