Summer is right around the corner; therefore, many of us will partake in numerous graduations, weddings, receptions and/or other black tie affairs. Does that mean the dress shoes have to out the closet? No. Over the years, many brands have created luxurious, formal-themed sneakers for the aforementioned affairs we listed. Do you remember the Nike Air Force 1 Low “Tuxedo”? What about the Air Jordan 1 “Prom” Pack? Would you rock the Nike LeBron 8 V4 “Milan” to graduation? Check out these shoes, plus 18 others, in our Tux, Tie & Kicks: 21 Sneakers for Black Tie Affairs feature.

Released: July 2007

This “Tuxedo” Dunk Low was the first shoe released exclusively from the Nike Innovation Kitchen. It features a patent leather upper, laser-etched details and draws inspiration from the patent leather shoes worn by grooms in weddings. Nike released a limited number of these and applied the earnings to research and development in Nike?s Innovation Kitchen.

Released: N/A

If you have an Italian suit waiting to be worn, the “Milan” Nike LeBron 8 V4 would be the perfect shoe if it actually released. Earlier this week, Nike LeBron 8 Designer Jason Petrie supplied us with an exclusive look at the never-before-seen Nike LeBron 8 V4 “Milan”, an unreleased prequel to the three-sneaker LeBron 8 series. It is simply a high-quality, dressy take on LeBron?s eighth signature model and incorporates Italian, old world craftsmanship and dress shoe detailing.

Released: N/A

The Air Jordan 1 Phat Low “Tuxedo” is another sample that made our list of 20. Jordan Brand added a glossy, black patent leather element to the toe area, midfoot and heel giving this Air Jordan 1 Phat Low a very luxurious feel. We can’t forget the suede-textured swoosh and the #23 symbol on the lacing construction. An all-white or all-black suit would have blended in nicely with these.

Released: 2007

Who says your suit has to be black? In 2007, Nike motivated you snakeskin/gator wearers to put the dress shoes down and pick up these “Lux” Air Force 1s. To commemorate the 25th anniversary of the Air Force 1, Nike released these Forces which feature authentic anaconda and crocodile skin, respectively. Details such as 24K gold plated lace locks and 24K gold plated removable lace tips added to the exquisite feel of these Forces. We’re sure you didn’t stash the gators away too far seeing that these required big stacks to obtain.

Expected Released: Summer 2011

Vans has been releasing wingtip-themed sneakers for a couple of years now; however, we recently spotted what may be their most detailed wingtip creation to date. Vans incorporated a black/white, formal-like detailing to the Era Lo Pro and the Classic Era. Distinctive detailing is seen in the form of the white contrast stitching on the toe/heel. Expect to see these in stores within the next couple of months.

Released: November 2008

David Z and adidas joined forces with Ronnie Fieg to create this impressive “Black Tie Project”. Fieg stated, ?I wanted something classy, yet fresh. I guess it?s like James Bond meets Run DMC.? This high-quality Superstar possesses pearlized/patent leather and monochromatic pinstripes, but the most intriguing feature on this shoe is the retooling of the midsole and toe. Daivd Z and Adidas hosted a Black Tie gala (just two days before its Black Friday release), and the men were given a black Adidas neck tie when entering.

Released: 2005

We don’t know too many athletes that spend their time training in a three-piece suit, but if you are one of those in that select group, this Nike Trainer SC Hi “Tuxedo” would have been the ideal sneaker without a doubt. Nike added a premium satin/felt-like material to the black sections of this Trainer to further connect with the tuxedo theme.

Released: April 2009

Although Jordan Brand never released the previously-seen Air Jordan 1 Phat Low “Tuxedo” Sample, we did receive a fit-for-a-king Air Jordan 1 “Prom” Pack a couple of years ago. Each one features an almost seamless, premium patent leather upper. Jordan Brand had perfect timing seeing that these released in late April around the time of most proms. In other words, Jordan Brand was inferring that we put the patent dress shoes away.

Released: 2005

For this Air Force 1 Low “Tuxedo”, Nike added a premium satin/felt-like material on the black sections much like the previously-seen Nike Trainer SC Hi “Tuxedo”. What material/color hasn’t been seen on the classic Air Force 1? It is truly an all-occasion sneaker for just about everything including black tie affairs.

Released: N/A

Recently, Stefan Janoski revealed a photo of an upcoming Nike SB Zoom Stefan Janoski Mid ?Wingtip?. The wingtip design seems to be a hot theme currently, and the classy, simple Nike SB Zoom Stefan Janoski is the perfect shoe to display this theme.

Released: November 2006

As part of the “Italian Mafia” Pack, Nike released this Dunk Low Pro which features a black upper comprised of patent leather and faux horse hair. The red hints contrasts nicely with the black base giving this shoe its mob boss feel.

Released: 2005

Nike created something for those running late to the altar on wedding day. Instead of the gradient effect that is seen on the most Air Max 95 makeups, this shoe features all-white patent leather side panels and a mainly black base. It is safe to say, this would be your best bet if you’re used to being late to black tie affair functions.

Released: January 2011

adidas borrowed some Jerem Scott elements for this Top Ten design. If you’d rather go with a bow tie than a neck tie, this patent leather Top Ten Hi would be perfect for your Fonzworth Bentley style approach.

Released: April 2009

To further promote the Nike 6.0 ?Aquafrolics? film, Nike released this one-of-a-kind Braata “Prom” Pack. The shoe’s design includes a black/white tuxedo-like satin material on the inner lining and a piano key print on the midsole. In addition, the insole showcases the date of the film premiere.

Released: April 2010

To kick off their Bin 23 Collection, Jordan Brand released this Air Jordan 2 Premio. It contains a rich chocolate brown colored base comprised of premium leather and crocodile print (side panels). Each pair released was individually numbered and possessed the red Bin 23 seal. Is this one of the better Air Jordan “Bin 23” Collection offerings to date?

Released: March 2008

Long before the recent surge of wingtip themed sneakers, Nike released this wingtip Dunk pack which features a low top and a high top. Besides the simple, premium leather-textured uppers on these creations, Nike added monochromatic wingtip accents on the toe box of each one.

Released: April 2011

Diggy Simmons’ Chivalrous Culture line has received both positive and negative remarks; however, this Hamachi “Tuxedo” is easily one of the better creations we have seen from this line. This Hamachi combines lux pebbled leather and patent leather on the upper in a polished formation. The first 35 “Tuxedo” Hamachis were accompanied by a limited edition black bow tie.

Released: 2001 & 2004

In addition to the “Lux” Nike Air Force 1 Collection we showed you earlier, Nike applied a similar splendid design to a high-top version. It is set in high-quality Italian leather and features a detailed woven application on the side panels, toe box and ankle strap.

Released: Fall 2010

The adidas Originals JS Arrow “Black Tie” is easily one of the more creative and literal designs in this feature. What’s not to like about this creation? Jeremy Scott definitely took it to another level in regards to formal themed sneakers. The laces are removed giving way to a unique dress shirt-like construction on the midfoot. Also, the white leather/black patent combination is definitely fit for a formal occasion.

Released: November 2000

The Air Jordan 11 “Concord” and “Space Jam” colorways obviously are not inspired by formal shoes like the rest of the installments in this feature, but how could we leave these shoes off of the list? The color scheme, plus the patent leather rand, is very black tie affair-ready on both pairs. Plus, Boyz II Men made it cool to rock Air Jordans with suits at the Grammy’s. Notice the undone tie above. You will definitely get what you came for at the end of the night if you rock these to the affair.

Now that you have seen our Tux, Tie & Kicks: 21 Sneakers for Black Tie Affairs, choose your favorite in the voting poll below.

Nike Innovation Kitchen Dunk Low “Tuxedo”
