As announced yesterday, HUF SF will be closing down its retail locations in San Francisco after nine years. The oft-visited sneaker/clothing hot spot, which opened in 2002, was definitely the most well-known location for exclusive kicks in the Bay Area. However, as stated in owner Keith Hufnagel’s official announcement (below), he felt it was time to put more focus on his in-line merchandise.

In attempt to bring back the fondest memories of the Bay Area hot spot, our staff compiled a list of HUF’s extraordinary San Francisco-themed sneakers. In this feature, you will all of HUF’s SF-themed kicks which include the “HUFquake” Nike Air Force 1 and the HUF x Nike SB Air Trainer “Gold Digger” among other kicks. HUF incorporated a San Francisco Giants theme to this Nike SB Dunk in a very unique way. It possesses a distressed dark grey leather with a nod to to San Francisco’s hippie culture in the form of orange/black tie-dye side panels. We must applaud HUF for carrying out two city tributes in one sneaker.

In case you didn’t know, the city of San Francisco grew from a small settlement to a major city in the midst of the California Gold Rush (1848). HUF used this as a inspiration for a limited pair of Nike SB Air Trainers. Its baroque brown/paprika color scheme is highlighted by gold digging rock picks located on the heel panel, along with San Francisco’s initials.

For the “HUFquake” Nike Air Force 1 & Dunk Low, HUF drew inspiration from one of San Francisco’s most well-known weather disasters: earthquakes. The crackle-like design throughout the toe area, midfoot and side panels, represent the separation of land when an earthquake takes place. Both of these releases undoubtedly shook the sneaker community up because they were both highly sought-after a few years ago. Huf released matching fitteds and clothing to complete the set.

The San Francisco Giants, 2010’s World Series Champions, were thought of way before their winning ways last season. HUF teamed up with New York skate crew UXA on a DVS Keith Hufnagels signature sneaker that contained a Giants color scheme. UXA also created a pair for their hometown Mets. Both of these drops were a friends-and-family-only drop release.

HUF paid tribute to San Francisco’s rich railroad history with this adidas ZX 500. The primarily canvas-textured upper is inspired by the hickory striped uniforms worn by railway workers. HUF also incorporated Blue Train brass eyelets throughout the upper, along with a gum outsole. Definitely, one of the more detailed, SF-themed designs from HUF.

Much like the aforementioned “HUFquake” Nike Air Force 1 & Dunk, HUF applied the timeless crackle design on this quickstrike Nike Air Max 90 Current. Blue accents intersect the black/white crackle element appearing on the toe and other huarache inspired attributes throughout. While the “HUFmax” Nike Air Max 1 & 90 were not official HUF collaborations, this Air Max 90 Current was definitely HUF’s own.
