As the 2010-2011 NBA trade deadline approach many general managers made last-minute moves to solidify their team for the upcoming playoffs. Besides the altered roster spots on each team, our staff spotted a few, major sneaker-related stories that will have an effect instantly and in the far-fetched future. How will Carmelo Anthony’s signature line do in New York? Will Gerald Wallace lose his Air Jordan connection now that he is in Portland? Check out these effects, plus others, in our Eight Sneaker Effects from 2011’s NBA Trades.

Carmelo Anthony’s Jordan Line will Increase in Popularity

Trade Observation: Now that Carmelo Anthony is playing in an extremely big market, we expect Jordan Brand to do some very intriguing things with his signature line. NY’s market is much bigger than Denver’s market; therefore, Melo’s sneaker line will undoubtedly prosper. Jordan Brand, how about some Syracuse-themed sneakers? Maybe a Big Apple inspired shoe? There are limitless opportunities for a signature line in NY, and we are anticipating some classic color schemes, stories and themes incorporated into Melo’s line.

Will Nate Robinson Join KD’s Sneaker Movement?

Trade Observations: This past summer, Kevin Durant stated that he wanted a select group of players to wear his signature shoes. In addition to New Jersey Nets wingman Anthony Morrow and Houston Rockets small forward Terrence Williams, Durant also wanted Nate ‘Kryptonate’ Robinson to rock his shoes on a consistent basis. Now that Robinson and Durant are teammates, could we possibly see Nate shelve the LeBrons and start wearing Nike Zoom KD IIIs? Usually, a signature player’s teammates gladly wear the respective shoe. Yet, is Nate too comfortable in the LeBron 8s already?

Will Jeff Green Ditch the KD IIIs in Beantown?

Trade Observations: On the other hand, we will get to see if Jeff Green was rocking Kevin Durant signature sneakers because they meet his performance needs or because he played on the same team KD. In the past, we have seen players leave the team of a signature athlete and still wear their shoe (former Lakers big man Ronny Turiaf still wears Nike Zoom Kobe Vs and Cavs guard Daniel Gibson still rocks Zoom LeBron Soldier IVs). Will Jeff Green keep it KD and rock these White/Green KD IIIs or ask to borrow some of Rondo’s PEs?

Li-Ning/Baron Davis Lose Big Los Angeles Market

Trade Observations: Li-Ning is steadily making a big impact in the performance footwear arena; however, they may have suffered from Baron Davis’s move to Cleveland. Baron Davis was the brand’s biggest market payer seeing that he worked in the bright lights of Los Angeles. It was a perfect situation for Li-Ning and Baron Davis to garner attention for his signature model. The west coast was very near the Chinese market, and you could always catch Baron and his Li-Ning BD Defend sneakers in the Blake Griffin highlights seeing that he was the guy throwing him alley-oops consistently. It may be a little tough to market Baron’s Li-Ning BD Defend in Cleveland.

No more Knicks Colored Reebok Zig Slash PEs

Trade Observations: Obviously, Danilo Gallinari is no Carmelo Anthony, so we understand the trade. However, it sucks that we will not get to see Gallinari’s league-best Reebok Zig Slash PEs anymore in Kicks On Court. The New York Knicks color scheme seems to bring the best out of any sneaker, and the Reebok Zig Slash definitely benefited from the beloved orange and blue scheme. Although John Wall is the lead endorser of the Reebok Zig Slash, we feel as if Gallinari rocked the best PEs.

Bibby Brings AJs Back to D.C.

Trade Observations: Jordan Brand officially has an active member in Washington D.C. again. We know Josh Howard is there already, but he does not rock the variety of Air Jordans Mike Bibby has and will continue to do. Many of us remember MJ rocking sneakers such as the “Cool Grey” Air Jordan 11 and the Air Jordan XVII. Also, Richard Hamilton wore a few nice PEs during his time in Washington. We expect Bibby to restore some of the AJs-in-DC feeling.

Will Gerald Wallace Lose his Air Jordan Connection?

Trade Observations: Gerald Wallace was one of the few Bobcats players that benefited (sneaker-wise) from playing for a team MJ owned. Whether or not Wallace is an official Jordan Brand member is still unknown; yet, he is always seen in some of the best Air Jordan PEs and retros. Wallace is also credited for being the first player to wear the “Playoffs” Air Jordan 13 Retro on court this season. Will he lose his Jordan sneaker connect now that he plays for Portland? If we start to see Wallace rocking general release Hyperdunks, we will pencil him in with a loss whether he went to a better team or not. On the bright side, he can now possibly rock the “Playoffs” in the playoffs.

Everybody Loved Raymond’s Kicks

Trade Observations: Much like Danilo Gallinari, many will agree that Raymond Felton rocked some of the best PEs thanks to the orange and blue, New York Knicks color scheme. Atlanta Hawks forward Josh Smith is the lead endorser of the Infiltrate, but everybody loves Raymond’s player exclusives much better. It’s too bad we will not get to see this sneaker in the all-blue and all-orange variations that Felton used to wear. As seen in the photos above, the Nuggets color scheme just doesn’t pop like the Knicks PEs.
