Sneakers

The release of the Nike 1/2 Cent “Eggplant” is upon us and we’re as stoked as anybody. There’s no denying the dopeness of the Penny hybrid in the classic colorway, but is it the best “Eggplant” sneaker? Over the past few years we’ve seen a huge influx of this color having graced performance models, signature retros, and even non-basketball shoes. Which was the best? Check out the list to find out and tell us what your pick is in the poll and comment section.

14. Nike Shox R4

Ummmm busy? The Nike Shox R4 is undoubtably a classic as the first Shox runner. We’re just not sure if the “Eggplant” colorway works the best on this one. With that said it does provide a very different look for the shoe and it gets cool points for the Penny 1 inspired tongue.

13. Nike Air Max 24/7

Nike Air Max 24/7 "Eggplant"

The Nike Air Max 24/7 is definitely one of the most comfortable Air Max runners and has seen a ton of casual play this year, but the fact that it is a runner and not a basketball shoe makes the “Eggplant” motif a little mind boggling. Full length air and faux-posite upper? Certainly not for everyone but props to those that can pull off this ladies exclusive.

12. Nike Air Pippen II

Nike Air Pippen II "Eggplant"

Over the past few years the “Eggplant” theme has even?transcended?over to other signature lines including that of the Silent?Assassin. Scottie’s Nike Air Pippen II was dressed in?iridescent?purple faux-posite on top of a curvy black midsole. Top it off with the jewel Swoosh and we say they’re pretty good. Maybe Pip would’ve looked pretty good in a Suns jersey…

11. Nike Blazer High Foamposite

Nike Blazer High Foamposite "Eggplant"

Old school definitely met new school on the Nike Blazer High Foamposite. As much as well all love ‘Posites, there’s two aspects we’re not the craziest about: price and wearability. This Blazer solved both using a simple and inexpensive shell. Sure it’s not real Foam on the upper, but it provides quite the illusion.

10. Nike Air Max Wavy

Nike Air Max Wavy "Eggplant"

The Nike Air Max Wavy may be dubbed a ‘take down’ by some, but there’s no denying its appeal. Not only does it hold up on the court in today’s game but it also comes at a nice price point. Its application of “Eggplant” liquid faux-posite also made this a certified neck braker. Don’t believe us? See these on the foot and you’ll do a double-take.

9. Nike Air Penny 3

The “Liquid Penny” also got the “Eggplant” treatment after the success of the Foamposite. A white upper and iridescent purple Foam gave a new look to the popular Nike Air Penny 3. Not only did this colorway look good, but it made sense too as Penny had a stint with the Phoenix Suns.

8. Nike Big Nike High

Nike Big Nike High "Eggplant"

The Nike Big Nike High executed the “Eggplant” colorway awesomely draping the entire upper in the shiny purple finish. Well placed black accents and a cement outsole pulled the shoe together perfectly for a well?executed?interpolation that didn’t feel like a carbon copy.

7. Nike Hyperdunk

Nike Hyperdunk "Eggplant"

In 1999 Flightposite technology came on the scene revolutionizing lightweight basketball uppers. In 2008 Flywire took it to another level. They crossed paths on the Nike Hyperdunk “Eggplant”;?capitalizing?on the new technology model and the colorway of the OG Flightposite. A great performance shoe in a great colorway made these a jaw-dropper on and off the court.

6. Nike Zoom Skyposite

Nike Zoom Skyposite "Eggplant"

The Nike Zoom Skyposite may have gone under the radar due to limited distribution and no marketing, but that doesn’t take away from it being an awesome design. While it’s best known for the colorway worn by Nate Robinson in the Dunk Contest, the “Eggplant” makeup is certainly a close second. Whether or not the Skyposite was ahead of its time is debatable, never the less, this colorway suits it well.

5. Nike Zoom Hyperfuse

Nike Zoom Hyperfuse "Eggplant"

The “Eggplant” colorway on the Nike Zoom Hyperfuse didn’t just remind us of the Flightposite of the same theme, it also took us back to the Hyperflight PE worn by Jason Williams. This shoe is a great example of Nike’s effort to put fashion friendly colorways on performance footwear. Don’t be surprised if high tech kicks in color schemes like this begin to overtake retros in popularity.

4. Nike Air Max Foamdome

Nike Air Max Foamdome "Eggplant"

Flyer than the rest of them, the Nike Air Max Foamdome “Eggplant” saw the culmination of one of the greatest basketball shoes, greatest ACG boots, and greatest colorways on one silhouette. Any owner of this model will swear by them as they prove?indestructible?during the coldest winters.

3. Nike Air Flightposite

Nike Air Flightposite "Eggplant"

Simply put the original. The Nike Air Flightposite was one of the most innovative models from the famed Alpha Project using Zoom Air, lightweight Foam, and zip closure. It’s iridescent upper was one of the first of its kind and has been subject to imitation ever since.

2. Nike Air 1/2 Cent

Nike 1/2 Cent "Eggplant"

A hybrid’s hybrid in and still a Penny’s Penny, the Nike 1/2 Cent may look its best in “Eggplant”. While there’s no denying the Orlando themed colorway, the latest drop is incredible once the light hits the purple upper and icy sole.

1. Nike Air Foamposite One

Nike Air Foamposite One "Eggplant"

Remember the other time a retro colorway released and then dropped again a year later? Oh that’s right, never. The Nike Air Foamposite One “Eggplant” proved that an all time classic could come back in a new colorway and be as good or better than the original. After a limited release in 2009 they came back 13 months and a day after to a hero’s welcome. It’s clear that “Eggplant” will never be the same.
