Sneakers have, and will continue to be, inspired by just about anything. Lately, we have gathered information on a couple of bear-themed sneakers that are set to release in the near future (see Sneaker Showdown: “Bears”). However, there has been an abundance of bear-themed sneakers that have surfaced in recent years including the “Three Bears” Nike SB Dunk Pack and the Nike Dunk Hi Premium “Ueno Panda”.

With that said, check out our Too Much to Bear: History of Bear-Inspired Kicks. After viewing this feature, let us know your favorite bear-themed sneaker in the comment section below.

Year Released: July 2008

This Dunk Hi Premium was the fourth installment of the Nike Dunk “Japan” Pack. It was dedicated to Tokyo?s Ueno Park, home of Ling Ling, the Giant Panda. The upper consisted of 100% horse hair in a Panda bear-like black/white color scheme. However, the shoe being packaged in a cage instead of a shoe box is easily its most intriguing feature.

Year Released: May 2008

Many of you Discovery Channel/Animal Planet fans must applaud this collaborative effort between atoms and Puma on the “Endangered Species” Pack. This PUMA Clyde “Polar Bear” features an off white nubuck upper, a fur collar and a blue icy sole which represents the Polar Bear’s natural habitat.

Year Released: September 2010

Converse’s Pro Star “Baby Bear” is the latest bear-inspired sneaker to surface in the sneaker world. Inspired by ‘Baby Bear’ from Sesame Street, this shoe features a brown suede-textured base with a darker brown fur texture on the heel and inner lining. The minimal pink hints represent the inside color of the bears’ ears.

Year Released: June 2008

This womens-exclusive Nike Dunk Low caused the jealousy to come out in some guys when it released two years ago. Its off-white fur sections, combined with a predominately brown leather base, made a nice bear theme, let Dunk. It specific bear elements include a bear print on the insole and tongue.

Year Released: 2011

Jeremy Scott continues to surprise us with his one-of-a-kind designs. His latest comes in the form of this 100% fur-textured? adidas Originals model. To further carry out the ‘bear’ theme, Scott added a bear head (with arms) for its tongue! We can’t help but love this creation.

Year Released: November 2008

The PUMA First Round “Wildlife” Grizzly Bear is one of the more peculiar sneakers on our list. Usually, (well, 100% of the time) grizzly bears are brown. Yet, PUMA opted for white fur on the inner lining and collar. Did PUMA get their bear mixed up?

Year Released: November 2008

Much like the aforementioned PUMA First Round “Wildlife” Grizzly Bear, this inspiration is somewhat questionable. The Dunk Low “Polar Bear”, from the “Winter Animal” Pack, features a black/white color scheme although most polar bears are white, right. Nevertheless, its texture makeup is one of the best on this list. It possesses a mixture of premium leather/suede, along with a rubberized toe to provide extra durability.

Year Released: July 2008

Atmos and PUMA went the extra mile when designing this sneaker. Instead of simply focusing on the panda bear as the direct inspiration, both parties also incorporated the bear’s favorite food: bamboo. The Puma Mid features a black suede upper, back fur collar and white leather with a bamboo leaf design on the side panels.

Year Released: September 2008

Although a yellow and red bear hasn’t been spotted in the animal world, PUMA opted for this color scheme on its “Teddy Brown” First Round. There is a plethora of textures on this shoe such as leather, patent leather and suede; however, the furry tongue, inner lining and heel, gives this shoe its animal tactics.

Year Released: November 2006

The Nike SB Dunk “Three Bears” Pack is arguably one of the best Nike SB releases to date. It features a ?Baby Bear? Dunk Low, a ?Momma Bear? Dunk Mid, and a ?Papa Bear? Dunk High.
