From San Diego to Los Angeles, the Clippers have a history that dates back to the 70’s. This should be an exciting year for the LA franchise as Paul George, Kawhi Leonard, and John Wall all return back to the game in a big way. To commemorate the 2022 Clippers Statement Edition Jersey, CHPTR-3 founder Gabe Gonzalez created a custom Air Jordan 5.

As a longtime Clippers fans, Gabe Gonzalez was honored to be invited by the team to design a custom sneaker inspired by this year’s statement edition jersey. Gonzalez dedicated his design to the Clippers’ journey from San Diego to Los Angeles using real-life sail elements. As a San Diego native himself, it was important to Gonzalez that the sneaker incorporated the Clipper’s SD legacy. He chose the Air Jordan 5 silhouette to tell the SD to LA story because of the model’s wave like accent on the midsole.

The sneaker has an all-black ripstop upper with white highlight stitching across the toebox and around the panels. The statement stitching uses material from an actual sail cloth. Polyester and canvas add texture to the sneaker, which builds into an exposed foam ankle collar. The Jumpman on the tongue is dressed in red, while blue elements appear on the lace toggle and midsole. The lateral heel counter features a numbered marking to identify the individual pairs, with only 13 in existence. The insoles have maps of the SoCal cities, with Los Angeles on one insole and San Diego on the other. The sneaker is finished with a Los Angeles script font on the heel, which was designed by LA artist Mister Cartoon.

Take a look at the custom Air Jordan 5 “Clippers Statement Edition” below. The Clippers will be debuting the jersey on November 9th when they host the Lakers on ESPN. For more Sneaker News and Jordan Release Dates, follow @NiceKicks on Instagram.
