{"id":1064526,"date":"2022-06-23T18:53:00","date_gmt":"2022-06-23T23:53:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.snkrsday.com\/?p=1064526"},"modified":"2022-06-23T19:06:21","modified_gmt":"2022-06-24T00:06:21","slug":"nike-rumored-to-exit-russia-after-suspending-shipments","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.snkrsday.com\/nike-rumored-to-exit-russia-after-suspending-shipments\/","title":{"rendered":"Nike is Latest Company Set to Completely Exit Russia"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-update-06-23\">Update (06\/23):<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Following Nike&#8217;s decision to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.snkrsday.com\/nike-stops-online-sales-in-russia\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">scale back operations in Russia<\/a> after the country&#8217;s invasion of Ukraine, <em>Forbes <\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.forbes.com\/sites\/siladityaray\/2022\/06\/23\/nike-is-reportedly-the-latest-global-brand-to-exit-russia-completely\/?sh=64d571893ee0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">reports<\/a> that the Swoosh is &#8220;set to leave the Russian market for good.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Per <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.forbes.com\/sites\/siladityaray\/2022\/06\/23\/nike-is-reportedly-the-latest-global-brand-to-exit-russia-completely\/?sh=64d571893ee0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Forbes<\/a><\/em>, Nike stated via email that the company will \u201cresponsibly scale down\u201d in the upcoming months while \u201cfully supporting\u201d its employees in the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Stay tuned to Snkrs Day for more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p>Earlier this year<strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.snkrsday.com\/nike\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Nike<\/a><\/strong> made the decision to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.snkrsday.com\/nike-stops-online-sales-in-russia\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">stop all online orders in Russia<\/a> after not being able to guarantee delivery. Both the Nike Russia website and app have been offline since, with Russian customers redirected to their local Nike retailers. Now, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.forbes.com\/sites\/roberthart\/2022\/05\/25\/nike-is-reportedly-leaving-russia-after-not-renewing-main-franchise-contract\/?sh=15d925a0a5bf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Forbes<\/a> reports that Nike has declined to renew their contract with their biggest Russian franchisee,<strong> Inventive<\/strong> <strong>Retail Group (IRG)<\/strong>. Nike has suspended its shipments to IRG leaving Nike stock to dwindle by the day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Out of the 56 remaining authorized Nike stores, IRG currently operates 37 of them. It&#8217;s unclear if Nike will draw up new contract terms for IRG, but as of now, their contract has not been renewed and a new contract has not been offered to them. Nike and IRG&#8217;s existing agreement officially ends on May 26, 2022.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It&#8217;s unclear if Nike&#8217;s decisions are politically motivated in support of Ukraine, but <a href=\"https:\/\/www.forbes.com\/sites\/roberthart\/2022\/05\/25\/nike-is-reportedly-leaving-russia-after-not-renewing-main-franchise-contract\/?sh=15d925a0a5bf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Forbes<\/a> reports that, &#8220;[Nike] has made the decision not to renew or enter into new business commitments in Russia &#8216;due to operational challenges in Russia,&#8217; including agreements with franchisee Up&amp;Run, a subsidiary of IRG.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Nike joins a list of other globally recognized western brands that have decided to exit Russia including Starbucks, Burger King, McDonalds, the Marriott Hotel Group and more. Additionally, Nike has withdrawn its sponsorship of the Russian football club, Spartak Moscow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Snkrs Day will continue to update this story as it develops.
