Nike’s ISPA (Improvise; Scavenge; Protect; Adapt) team continues to push boundaries as far as design and they’ve designed a new sneaker that is modular and can be taken apart to be recycled and repurposed down the line, continuing Nike’s Move to Zero initiative with the Nike ISPA Link.

The sneaker was designed with sustainability in mind, more specifically how the use of glue makes a shoe nearly impossible to disassemble and recycle. Recycling sneakers typically requires shredding, which eats up energy and limits the use of recycled materials. The ISPA Link solves that problem but not using glue and implementing an interlocking module system that secures the modular upper and midsole, taking inspiration from the 2003 Nike Presto Clip and 2005 Nike Zvezdochka. The Flyknit upper wraps around the nubs of the midsole to lock the midsole and upper in place and can be fully disassembled be repurposed.

The Nike ISPA Link is scheduled to drop later this June via SNKRS and at select retailers.
