It felt like a scene from the early 2000s movie Road Trip where Barry says his friend went to Austin, Massachusetts. If a place like that did exist, it was Sneaker Politics today as they were taken over by the Boston powerhouse Cncpts and their clean up hitter Deon Point. Coming off the success of their first 2/3 Air Max releases Cncpts decided to invade SXSW.

Derek Curry and Co. were in the house and dressed to impress. We spoke briefly regarding Voodoo Fest which is a Louisiana based festival that highlights shades of Halloween. Curry is known for his love with the Woodstock era and he says “It just made sense that we do something for SXSW with my best friend”. The lineup was anything but “Heavy” and the crowd waiting patiently with some customers arriving as early as 5:45 in the morning.

Longtime partners Cncpts and Nike hit the nail on the head iteration of the classic running sneaker paying homage to the Woodstock music festival that took place back in August of 1969. The style features a faded denim upper that’s coupled with a tiger camo mudguard and a bandana-inspired heel counter. Inspired by the outfits that a lot of the original attendees wore throughout the original Woodstock event. Very similar to the first “Mellow” colorway, the midsole incorporates a “mud” speckled design that represents the look after attending a concert. We also got a sneak peak at the 3rd installment confirmed to be entitled “Far Out” by Deon himself.

The store had a vibe that we haven’t felt at a sneaker release for a while. Inside, to the left was a giant swoosh spelled out in Air Max 1‘s. Outside was a DJ blasting Hendrix as the team greeted you on carpets with a wristband for a pair of the CNCPTS x Nike AM1 “Heavy”. The line up was cool and calm just like the 60’s, staff was dressed to impress while Derek and Deon took time and signed boxes. This release was definitely “Dynamite” to say the least.
