Even the most iconic of legends experience hardships, and misfortune rained down on Michael Jordan in October of 1985, when MJ broke a bone in his left foot during his game against the Golden State Warriors. This injury ultimately benched Jordan for six months and derailed his sophomore season. Lelands Auctions turned Jordan’s trials and tribulations into treasure, as the pair of Air Jordan 1s that he wore during this game were auctioned off for $422,130. This sneaker has been dubbed as the “Broken Foot Game” and is considered to be the last original Air Jordan 1 that MJ has ever worn. Up until now, the pair had been kept by the Jordan family and was recently gifted to the company’s consignor’s father.

This sneaker honors a trying time for both Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls, as the team’s record fell from 3-0 to 24-43 after Jordan broke his foot. This was Jordan’s first major injury and happened quite suddenly considering he scored 12 points within 18 minutes, just before the accident happened.

Dressed in the classic “Chicago” colorway, this Air Jordan 1 has a white leather base with red leather overlays. The laces are black to match the Nike Swoosh and ankle collar. The Air Jordan Wings are also finished in black, while the tongue tag features classic Nike Air branding. The left shoe is a size 13, while the right sneaker is size 13.5. The pair is finished with the product code, “850102-TYPS,” and were produced during January-February of 1985. Being that these sneakers are game-worn, noticeable blemishes appear around the ankle collar, midsole, and trim.

The bid for Michael Jordan’s “Broken Foot Game” Air Jordan 1s started at $250,000 and was estimated to sell anywhere between $400,000 – $500,000. The final offer was closed at $422,130. For more sports memorabilia and history, follow @NiceKicksVault on Instagram.
