Steph Curry’s latest shoe – the Under Armour Curry 6 – is modeled after a running shoe as the 2x NBA MVP moves more than 95% of the league with feet that change direction just about every two seconds.
While the design team at Under Armour have their hands full creating kicks for arguably the fastest feet in the NBA, they’re about to embark on designing apparel for astronauts in outer space that will move at three times the speed of sound.
Just how? UA has teamed up with Richard Branson to develop space suits for Virgin Galactic.
As reported by CNN, the brand and the business tycoon are currently developing a line of austronaut apparel that will be unvieled in 2019 as part of Virgin Galactic’s first commercial flight.
That flight is expected to take place in the next five to six months with Branson set to be onboard with passengers and thus suited up. At this point, over 600 tickets have been sold with prices ranging from $200,000 to $250,000 a flight.
Under Armour will be desiging the suits worn by both pilots and passengers, with brand CEO Kevin Plank more than excited.
“Working with Sir Richard [Branson] and Virgin Galactic is an opportunity of a lifetime, one that has the entire Under Armour team across the world excited,” said Plank in a statement.
In the interview above with CBS This Morning, Plank touches on the topic that astronauts will be able to test product at the brand’s Portland facility. From a historical standpoint, this is of great relevance as that building is where Tinker Hatfield created the cross-training category for Nike over three decades ago. Pretty cool.
