Spike Lee’s latest joint, BlacKkKlansman, the true story of Ron Stallworth, a black cop who goes undercover as a card-carrying member of the Colorado Springs Ku Klux Klan chapter, was up for several awards last night during the 2019 Golden Globes. Yet before the awards broadcast began, Lee took to Instagram to debut his footwear for the evening — a Michael Jordan blessed, Tinker Hatfield-designed, “BlacKkKlansman” Air Jordan.
A boxy gold sneaker with “TRUTH TO POWER,” “SPEAK ON IT” and “RESIST” tagged along the midsole, the boisterous design also calls out to Lee’s Forty Acres and a Mule Filmworks production company at the heel. Lee wore the shoe at the Golden Globes red carpet with a purple suit and matching beret. And while his attire was very French, his sneaker was as American as his alter ego and She’s Gotta Have It character, Mars Blackmon.
Lee’s one of the earliest and most adoring Jordan Brand celebratory endorsers. The relationship between the two continues to hold firm over the years; here, celebrating Lee’s most recent accomplishments in film and storytelling.
