Denoted designer and Nike Boy Riccardo Tisci has been one of the most important names in fashion over the course of the last ten years.
Serving as Givenchy creative director from 2005 to 2017, he proved pivotal in his mergence of streetwear ethos with high fashion house backing while embracing celebrity endorsement both at shows and in wearings more than anyone in his field (other than perhaps Jeremy Scott) ever before.
As the tale of tape tells it, streetwear influence and A-list wear has anchored much of the aesthetic space we currently live in with Tisci’s star studded sweaters and Rottweiler tees done by Givenchy lacing everyone from Kanye to Beyonce during the boom.
No longer with Givenchy, it was announced today that Tisci is also no longer a free agent as he will serve as Chief Creative Officer for Burberry.
One would expect that his design duties with NikeLab would continue, and one might even hope that his two jobs cross paths as Burberry plaid ‘customs’ on Air Forces and Air Jordans were both cracked on and coveted fifteen years ago, which makes them just about a perfect play for today’s chase meets irony trends.
