Nike’s 2024 Doernbecher Freestyle Collection Celebrates 20 Years of Creativity and Charity
Nike’s legendary partnership with Doernbecher Children’s Hospital is back for a milestone year! The 2024 Doernbecher Freestyle Collection marks two decades of empowering young patients to design their dream kicks, and this year’s lineup delivers big with a sparkly, personal touch.
The collection brings six bold sneakers crafted by the imagination and resilience of six young designers:
- Nike Air Zoom Pegasus 41
- Nike Sabrina 2
- Nike Air Max SNDR
- Nike Air 180
- Nike Air Max DN
- Air Jordan 6 Retro
One standout is Jillian Beagley’s Air Jordan 6 Retro, a heartfelt tribute to her love for basketball and life’s second chances. Jillian, just 14 years old, added interchangeable patches featuring her favorite things—like cucumbers, lacrosse, and, of course, hoops. She stitched “Give Life” across the toe box to honor her liver donor and included a gold Jumpman on the heel to celebrate the power of authenticity.
What’s the Doernbecher Freestyle All About?
For those new to the Freestyle program, it’s Nike’s annual charitable initiative that gives six young patients from Doernbecher Children’s Hospital the chance to design their own sneakers. Every pair is a reflection of their personal interests, passions, and medical journeys, turning footwear into storytelling. These exclusive sneakers are then auctioned off to raise funds for the hospital—since launching 20 years ago, the program has raised over $37 million for Doernbecher.
What’s New for 2024?
This year’s celebration doesn’t stop at sneakers. Nike is adding a special Tech Fleece hoodie to the collection, featuring design elements from each sneaker on the sleeves, with all six designers’ names embroidered across the back. It’s the perfect complement to the kicks and a must-have for anyone following the collection.
A Limited-Edition Air Jordan 20 for the 20th Anniversary
In an epic anniversary move, Nike is also auctioning off 20 pairs of Air Jordan 20 “Doernbecher” at Sotheby’s, starting on October 21. Each pair comes decked out with laser-engraved graphics and will include a Nike tee and a Tech Fleece bomber jacket with matching laser prints. Best of all, every dollar from the auction benefits the Doernbecher Children’s Hospital.
The 2024 Doernbecher Freestyle sneakers drop this winter—don’t sleep on this release! Whether you’re here for the kicks, the hoodie, or just to support a good cause, the Doernbecher collection continues to prove that sneakers can make a difference.
