Devin Booker is releasing a player exclusive (PE) version of his Nike Book 1 with the upcoming Nike Book 1 “Forrest Gump” release.
Inspired by its namesake, the “Forrest Gump” Book 1 emulates the iconic Nike Cortez “Forrest Gump” colorway, worn by Tom Hanks’ character in the titular film.
The Nike Cortez debuted in 1972 and became a staple for runners with its sleek white leather, vibrant red swoosh, and striking blue accents. After its debut, Charlie’s Angel’s Farrah Fawcett skateboarded in the white, red, and blue Cortez, elevating the Cortez in the eyes of the masses. But it was Tom Hanks’ portrayal of Forrest Gump in 1994 that skyrocketed the shoe to iconic status.
When Forrest laced up his Cortez sneakers to run across America, the world took notice.
Since the ’90s, the Nike Cortez “Forrest Gump” has been widely recognized and referenced profusely throughout sneaker and pop culture, including Bella Hadid’s 2017 Nike campaign which recreated Fawcett’s moment in the shoe.
Book and Nike are tapping into Swoosh history for inspiration, living up to the Book 1’s goal of becoming a retro classic.
The Nike Book 1 “Forrest Gump” emulates the Cortez into a performance basketball shoe with a canvas twill base and leather overlays in white. The bold red Swoosh, heel, and “BOOK” tongue branding continue the “Forrest Gump” homage while the blue midsole stripe completes the colorway.
The Nike Book 1 “Forrest Gump” releases on January 9, 2025, for $140 via Nike.com and select retailers.
