Snkrs Day: We’ve seen Yeezy 2s and Dolce & Gabbana shoes on court. Where does it just get too crazy for you? What’s the wildest shoe you would wear on court?

Derrick Williams: [Laughs] I don’t know if I would wear high-end shoes on court. That’s probably where it would stop for me, but before Nate Robinson wore the Yeezy 2, I was actually going to wear the original Yeezy on court last season but I decided not to. I also planned on wearing the “American Flag” adidas KOBE II last season, but now that I’m officially signed to Nike I might let my teammate Shabazz Muhammad wear them for a game and then put them away. I don’t know though, man. There’s a few shoes I would wear on court – the McFlys might be one – you just never know [Laughs].

Snkrs Day: Who do you think will be your stiffest competition this season in terms of being creative with their kicks on court?

Derrick Williams: Besides the regulars like Nick Young and Nate Robinson, there are a few other guys I like to watch on a consistent basis. I think Rudy Gay brings some heat to the court. DeMar DeRozan is one to check out too, but I would say Nick Young is my stiffest competition because he wears a size 13 and it’s much easier to get the heat in that size as opposed to the size 14/15 I wear. He has a little bit of an edge right there. I don’t have a lot of kicks like some of these guys I see you feature on the Sneak Peeks, but the majority of my collection features some really rare stuff. I’m more into exclusivity instead of quantity.

Snkrs Day: Ah, I see. Describe a trend that you think we’ll most likely see this season.

Derrick Williams: I’d have to say customs. I saw the “Ironman” customs that Mache made for LeBron, and if I got the chance to get my hands on those, I would’ve definitely worn them. I mean, there are certain things you can and can’t do as far as the NBA dress code on court, but I think you’ll see players do a lot with customs this year, including myself.

Snkrs Day: Well, we’ll be paying attention to see if you’re really going to defend the Kicks On Court Champion crown.

Derrick Williams: Let’s just say it will be a good and exciting year as far as my kicks on court. I promise you that.
