A 2-Hour Cooking Session in the “Toro Bravo” 5s
I’m a member of the Iota Delta chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi (@utnupes), Spring 11 Tail Klub to be exact. At the end of each school year, we host a boat party on Lake Travis. I love boat parties – I mean who doesn’t – but the preparation for the event is always a pain.
During my neo year, I was originally scheduled to pick up utensils and give rides from campus but somehow, I ended up being forced to help with burger prep. I usually don’t mind cooking, but when you have to make 300 burgers, and hotdogs in a 2-hour span, things get a bit hectic. Hectic is an understatement. It was pure chaos: three guys cooking on the stove, and eight different George Foreman grills.
Somehow after countless burns and hearing the fire alarm go off multiple times, we eventually finished cooking. By this time we were all partially inebriated and ready to turn up, but we could not leave my frat brothers apartment looking like McDonald’s after rush hour. In attempt to quickly wipe down the counter, I knocked a huge can of burger grease on to the floor. Although it didn’t directly land on me, the splatter caught the whole right shoe of my Toro Bravo 5s. I shed a few tears that day. Luckily, along came Jason Markk cleaner and I was able to clean most of it off but there are a few dark spots here and there.
