Allison Halfhill

Nike Air Max 1 Premium ‘Crepe’

So back in 2004, I was just learning the ropes of the whole shoe game from Mr. Halfhill. To my own credit though, I did know how to spot a deal. So after checking out the men’s wall, I ended up at the clearance rack at our local Finish Line (Lakeline Mall, Austin, TX). Almost immediately, I spotted an Air Max 1. Now, knowing Matt, I knew he would scoff at most non-original colorways, so I didn’t call him over to check out what I had found. Still, I held onto the shoe because I liked the looks of the colors and thought it might make a nice gift for one of my cousins. When he was done looking and about to leave the store, I asked him what he thought of the shoe, fully expecting him to diss my find. This did not happen. “What?!! Where did you find this?” I pointed to the clearance rack and said, ‘Over there.’ He grabbed the shoe and asked the team member if they had any more. The team member shook his head and said, ‘What’s on the rack is all we have’ and walked away.

Well, that day we paid $29.99 for a brand new pair of Air Max 1 Premium Crepes. The tag said $59.99, but because they had sat for so long, they had been reduced further. Obviously, Matt was overjoyed. I just wanted to go to the movies after that. Did that happen? Nope. We stopped by every Finish Line in town until we had found the last two remaining pairs in the city. The R.O.D. life of a sneakerhead’s wife.
Today’s price: $400
