The Notorious B.I.G and Timberland are teaming up for the 30th anniversary of Biggie’s Ready to Die album.

The partnership is the perfect marriage and was years in the making. Biggie’s style extended beyond his music and became a cultural icon, specifically for his affinity for Timberland boots.

Timbs, specifically the 6-inch boot, became a staple in the New York hip-hop scene during the 1990s, symbolizing street fashion. Biggie Smalls played a significant role in popularizing Timberlands through his music and public appearances. In “Suicidal Thoughts,” Biggie rapped the following:

It don’t make sense, going to heaven with the goodie-goodies
Dressed in white, I like black Timbs and black hoodies

Biggie’s relationship with Timberland also reflected the broader cultural trends of hip-hop embracing workwear and street-ready attire. The boots, originally designed for manual labor, became an iconic piece of fashion in urban culture, thanks in part to Biggie’s influence.

Biggie’s frequent use of the boots and his lyricism embracing the 6-inch boot helped shape how the brand was perceived, turning them into a symbol of authenticity and toughness in the world of rap and street culture.

For the 30th anniversary of the debut, Timbs and Biggie’s estate are linking up for a collaborative collection, releasing exclusively at Foot Locker on September 27.
