Tokyo-based retailer, Atmos, will exit North America as the Foot Locker-acquired company will focus on Japan and Asia as a result of the decision, according to Footwear News.
Atmos was founded in 2000 in Harajuku, Tokyo, and has been a household name for sneakerheads overseas and in the U.S. with exclusive releases, collaborations, and its U.S. locations in the East Coast with stores in Philadelphia, Washington D.C., and New York.
In August 2021, Foot Locker Inc. acquired Atmos and WSS, a West Coast retailer. However, a shift in the economy and consumer habits have slowed every retailer down. Earlier this year, Foot Locker announced that it would close 400 mall stores by 2026.
Foot Locker Inc. announced in August a sales decline of 9.9 percent while Atmos sales fell 10 percent in the quarter as well.
