The Three Stripes took shots at KD via X (formerly known as Twitter) on two separate occasions.
UPDATE (12/01):
After Anthony Edwards stated that he wanted to see longtime Nike signature athlete Kevin Durant wear his AE 1, Durant responded that he “[w]on’t EVER see me put a big toe in them Mfers.”
adidas Basketball responded “u dusty bouta retire soon anyways” and followed it up by poking fun of Durant’s Twitter burner fiasco from a few years back.

Even Nike Basketball footwear designer Benjamin Nethongkome, who works on KD’s line as well as Ja Morant’s, Devin Booker’s, Sabrina Ionescu’s and the previous Nike Kyrie line, chimed in via Instagram stories with a laughing emoji.
The back-and-forth between the Swoosh and the Three Stripes follows an eventful week for both brands after adidas CEO Bjørn Gulden called Nike out at the Footwear News Achievement Awards ceremony to “watch out” as they have more on the way. Jordan Brand Chairman Larry Miller responded a few speeches later to “bring it on.”

The next signature athlete for adidas Basketball is here as Anthony Edwards and adidas officially unveil the adidas AE 1.
The design of the adidas AE 1 marks a new era for the Three Stripes with design language and performance aspects that peel the curtain back for what adidas Basketball has coming up.
And it all starts with Anthony Edwards.
We sat down with Edwards and discussed having his own signature shoe, who he’d like to see play in it, and more.
Read what Edwards had to say below.
Snkrs Day: What’s it like joining adidas’ roster of signature shoe stars?
Anthony Edwards: It’s super dope to be alongside those guys. They’re doing their thing right now, so I have to make sure I hold up my end of the bargain and do my thing when I go out there with my shoes. I can’t let people down.
NK: What was it like seeing your signature shoe for the first time?
AE: [The AE 1] was sitting on a table, and I didn’t realize it until later in the meeting. I was smiling from ear to ear. It was a crazy feeling for sure.
NK: What are you looking forward to the most with the launch of your AE 1?
AE: I want y’all to sit outside for these AEs how y’all sit outside for them Jordans. Come shop with me.
NK: Which player would you like to see play in your adidas AE 1?
AE: KD. And he’s with Nike. I want to see him put on the AE one time in game.
The adidas AE 1 “With Love” releases for $120 on December 16, 2023, at adidas.com and select retailers.
