Widely considered the most popular sneaker of all time, the Air Jordan 11 returned last year in what’s considered to be its most iconic colorway — the “Concord.”
Removed from MJ’s signature number 23 at the heel — in lieu of the nuanced number 45 which references his Birmingham Barons and post first retirement jersey number — many expected the release this weekend to quickly become Nike’s best-selling sneaker of all time, eclipsing 2016’s Air Jordan 11 “Space Jam” which held top billing.
Good things, of course, tend to come in threes, lending credence to original reports that indicated the Air Jordan 11 “Bred” or “Playoff” will return for another retro run during 2019’s holiday season.
First released in 1996, re-released in 2001, again in 2008 for the “Countdown Pack” and finally in 2012, historically, the “Bred” 11s carry deep-seeded sentiment as Jordan and the Bulls powered past the Seattle Supersonics for another NBA championship while he donned this patent leather masterpiece.
In reference to the Air Jordan 11 “Concord” release last year, it differed from past editions beyond the iconic jersey number at the heel. It’s by far the tallest Air Jordan 11 yet.
Remastered materials are largely attributed to the heightened stance of Tinker Hatfield’s storied patent leather construction, as it canvasses more real estate in the latest editions of the silhouette.
While some thought the 2019 version would feature #45 on the heel, the pair Mike played in during the Bulls’ fourth title run following their historic 72-10 season featured #23 on the heel as he was back to his original number by that point in time.
Just the same, original packaging is said to return on the 2019 pair, too.
It is said the Air Jordan 11 “Playoff” will return on December 14, 2019 for $220.
Keep it locked to Snkrs Day for all updates.
