The vast number of Air Jordan 1 releases in 2018 wasn’t exactly a revelation. Undeniably one of the most coveted sneakers year in and year out, it’s widely expected that a similar number of releases will outfit the year at hand.
Running parallel to that theory is today’s first look at the forthcoming Air Jordan 1 “Phantom” edition. Due out this March in accordance with the brand’s spring/summer 2019 campaign, this White/University Red execution is, on its face, much like styles we’ve seen in the past. Yet when it comes to subtle variations that ultimately create distinction, few do it better than Jordan.
Stitching plays a critical role in this model’s visual separation. The overt expansion of the stitch work evokes new layers and striking dimensions to the age-old design. Moreover, the stark red contrasts at the ankle collar and just below the Wings logo also define newness.
Newness, though, isn’t often appreciated when it comes to the Air Jordan 1. It’s always been a shoe better stated in the original form. Thankfully there’s a lightness to the change here, making it easier to digest and subsequently wear.
Expect the Air Jordan 1 “Phantom” on March 16.
Update 2/28: Official images of the Air Jordan 1 “Phantom” have emerged. Look out for the release on March 16.
